BF2042 Beta

Post by 0verzeal0us »

So, what are everyone’s thoughts about the game?

I’m loving it. It feels like BF should be. The only issues I’ve found are 1, the gunner position in the tank isn’t great as there’s a terrible jolting feeling when the main gun moves and 2, the party and squad selection is wank.

I like it, it does take me back over a number of BF's. However from playing the Beta there's an awful lot of work for the devs to do before release. If they don't sort the glitches before release, it will not win the old school back.

In saying that, it's big, it's bold and I get the feeling they have had to develop it for the consoles which is how it feels, for example, the gun upgrade, which you can do whilst in game as example, that is weird.
Again they are changing key bindings, annoying, it's BF, why not keep the bindings the same.
Cammo rose, I miss that little flowry fella.

I know it's the Beta, but there's only a month until the release. And there's only one map so it's hard to give much thought on what they have offered.

My final say is this, it's looking good. Huge maps, less choices on weapons etc. so far but until I see the final product, I reserve judgement.

This almost needs a prawn review for added sexiness ;)

That is something I struggled with too, the lack of a comma rose. I'm hoping it's absence is only temporary!

One thing to remember is the build we're playing is apparently several months old so not truly representative of the current state of the game as well as it seems there's quite a lot of things not accessible in the game yet. Hopefully this means that most of the odd things happening have been ironed out, and for me that the ui is far better in the up to date version as I'm finding it somewhat strange.

I see a lot of problems with it but I think most of them can be put down to being beta. If it truly is a really old build then that is somewhat reassuring. I obviously haven't been playing even relatively recent BF games to compare to but in honesty it doesn't really feel that much different to what I was playing 15 years ago. Sure it looks pretty when the graphics aren't glitching but the gameplay doesn't appear to have moved on that much in years - but that didn't detract from my enjoying the few battles I have been in.

For me, as presumably most people here, the connecting with friends bit is the most important aspect, and I worry that has been reduced to a console experience at the expense of PC players. Let's see.

I really don't understand why they would release this version to the masses. What a way to kill the hype.

This is probably a repeat of 5, full game is coming in November and i don't care how old the Beta is, it will either be a complete fuck up in November or it will be delayed, and the rumour mill is looking at March next year.

Played a few hours of the beta on Friday. Was thoroughly whelmed. Even looking past the numerous bugs and technical issues, it just felt a bit meh to be honest. It did nothing to sustain my hype.

And why did dice decide that 4 man squads is a great idea, they could have gone with eight 8 man squads.
