NWI stopped Mac an Linux support for the game part of things.
Though I'm not sure, the server is not a game instance running to host a server but a different application separate from the game.
Therefore, considering linux is by far better with allocating resources a linux server woud be the better option.

When NWI mentioned dropping Mac/Linux support they meant for the game client, not the server. Insurgency Source was playable on both and they had originally pledged to renew that for Sandstorm, but eventually decided it was too much development to please a fairly small fraction of the playerbase.
@Spawnsy as far as I'm aware the devs have no plans to drop Linux support for the server application. Linux is way more popular for hosting game servers than Windows, in part like Honor says due to more efficient use of resources as well as easier management, remote access etc. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of Sandstorm community servers are running on Linux. Hell even the official servers probably are!
Overall sticking with Linux makes our admin tasks easier, gives us more control over the server and costs less for the same performance. I think we should do that

Mean that the game client will not be running on linux, but the server already has this support, so no worries unless they mention the servers specifically
