I know it’s not a Linux VPS but I’ve added Gaming Deluxe.

I could buy a server for a month to see if it’s any good if there’s a general consensus.

Added TransIP, a dutch company with highly configurable BladeVPS for around the same price we're paying right now

I've tweaked the spreadsheet so that it will give us a cost comparison in GBP and EUR based on the current exchange rate. I've also added a rank column so you don't have to digest the figures if you're lazy!

A quick summary of where we are at so far:

Ken, Spriggs and I had a chat and went through the ones in the doc. We ruled out a few, and decided we need more info on some of the others. I've colour-coded them (Pls correct if I got them wrong...) -
Red = Not really suitable
Yellow = Maybe, mostly good but some caveats
Green = Looks good so far

A lot of the providers lack info about exactly what CPUs they are running - as mentioned before we are prioritizing good single-thread/core performance, which can vary quite a lot depending on model even if the general specs are similar. @Kentone has offered to get in touch with the providers and see if he can get concrete specs - thanks Ken!

Of course if anyone finds more options please add them to the sheet!

Awesome! I know Windows minimum specs (mainly because it consumes more resources and because nearly all of my Linux machines I use are virtual appliances or run on a Raspberry Pi)! so I'm glad we have the best people looking at this (I mean that genuinely). :)

If your interested, I do have a spare Dell R610 rack mounted server (with 6x 120GB SSDs which can be configured in RAID 1 or 5) that we could use although I haven’t got a cabinet to put it in as I now live in a 2 bed flat.

Zel, it's not just the server that's the problem, it's connectivity to it.
These providers are probably hosted in data centers with redundant high speed, low latency connections available.

I'm running a number of internet facing servers off a normal (for here) business internet connection and also manage a couple of external "hosted" systems.

I know for a fact that a couple of the local servers have better specs than one of the hosted systems but the hosted system outperforms them due to its better network connectivity.

That is true. Work has a 500Mbps connection and it's great at the moment because no one else is using it. It's completely saturated when the the kids are there!

Another issue is uptime so having a redundant link with DDoS protection would also be recommended - something most home networks lack!

Q: Is Mac / Linux support coming to Sandstorm?

A: At the moment, NWI will not be committing any development time towards these features going forward. In regards to Mac and Linux support, it’s stated in our State of Production #4 that, “We have decided [that Mac / Linux Support] do not make business sense for us to pursue in the future.” For specific details, please read our SoP #4.

NWI are not going to support LINUX any longer. Am I missing something, or is everyone else? There is no point in changing to another provider in order to keep a linux setup, linux is finished.

Now, what does this mean to us, @kentone @Spriggs @peglegswansoon ??
