HTTPS subdomain to HTTPS domain

Post by 0verzeal0us » Fri May 21, 2021 10:22 pm

I have a domain which is secured with a wildcard SSL certificate BUT I want a subdomain to redirect a specific third party subdomain which is also secured with a wildcard. Any ideas how to make this work?

What web server are you running for the domains?

My website is hosted on IONOS but I want to redirect ratiation.0verzeal0us.co.uk to redirect to is https://fc199f91efbb2c99858f7e239e3a907 ... vices.com/

I use Cloudflare for a CDN so have to use their DNS (although it doesn't work with IONOS DNS either). If I redirect 0verzeal0us.com then I have no issue but then I don't have an SSL certificate for that.

Can you add a dns cname reference to it? That's how I forward my 'home' subdomain to my DDNS hostname, but I don't have SSL on that so might cause some issues. I imagine it'll fail as the URL SSL cert on the destination isn't the one that you're accessing it with.

Buggeration. I had followed Cloudflare's documentation to the letter but it was didn't work, and I had also tried adding a CNAME record for it but that too didn't work.

I've tried again this morning and it's only gone and bloody worked! Weird!

Thanks @Harrod200 and @darkdeamon! :-)

Lol, you have to give the records chance to update. Default TTL is 60 mins from your DNS server and it can take 24hrs to fully disseminate.

I thought I'd given it enough time... I'm going to blame 1&1 for this.

I only use them because the 2 domains, SSL cert and WP hosting costs £2.40 for a year (I am a tight arse).

Used 1&1 for years for my personal email bit not tried them for anything else.
You've gone down in my estimations for using WP though, you heathen!
