Sad loss. Not someone you know I hope DD? Doesn't make it any less sad, just more personal.

Re: RIP thread
RiP Mr R Lee Ermy, better known as the drill instructor from the Vietnam war movie 'Full Metal Jacket'.
Ermy won a Golden Globe nomination for his debut role when he was originally hired as a technical expert but was so convincing in demonstrating how to do it to the actor, that Stanley Kubrick gave him the part. This was down to the fact Ermy was actually a Drill Instructor and had done a tour of Vietnam. A lot of his lines were not scripted but ad libbed by Ermy.
For those not familiar with this classic role, here he is being ultra bad ass:

Re: RIP thread
Actually he spoke 150 pages of unscripted text (yes, the unscripted text gets scripted) of mostly abuse which puts you PB and Spawnsy to shame, youy kids have so much to learn.
Also just a point of fact the actor who was supposed to play the role left for some reason, can't remember why though.

Re: RIP thread
Thanks for that additional info Stujb. It's difficult to emphasise how good he was at that. I did that job for 8 years. Only part time in the reserves, BUT, I did that job. I was trained to do THAT job. I've (genuinely) struck fear into grown men (and officers - never, ever, fuck with a W.O), but that performance is mesmerising in it's depth and aggression.

Re: RIP thread
Wasn’t Lee Ermy there to advise the actor to play the part but he couldn’t so Kubrick sacked him?
On a side note, I’m not sure I’ve told you this but it was filmed down about 1”klick” from my house.
