I have to admit it looks quite good, i can see why Spawns, yourself and DD like the look of it as you all love the team/tactical side of it.

As this game is kind of still in early development this seems to be a route many games are taking i assume to assist with funding by the time it reaches its full release status it will be knocking on the 4 quarter of 2016 when BF5 is supposedly hitting the shelves.

Time will tell!!!

I've investigated the possibility of a EBS Squad server and the answer has to be 'not while the game is in Alpha'.

It is currently very CPU and memory hungry, doesn't run well on a VM and is only available through 2 providers while in alpha. A few early backers have got the key for the server software and are running it on their own rigs but that's not an option for us unless you happen to have a spare multiprocessor Xeon server and a symmetric, low latency 1Gb network link just floating around.

Hopefully as the game moves to beta, the server code will be improved so it doesn't need a high spec server or it can run on VM's and a few more providers will start hosting which should bring the price down to more reasonable levels.

I'll revisit this when a beta date is announced.

well. i've played 3 rounds now, and despite sucking balls, think it's worth playing. if/when we start getting members on together we'll whoop some ass for sure.

Can some alpha testers give info on actionplay time? How much time spent walking, and how much time spent engaging on average? Some percent distribution? I watched some videos and although game looks really good (especially teamplay); I'm just afraid that it's on the line of old Arma (walking sim), meaning 15 minutes of sneaking and walking just to get sniped in first minute of firefight. How would you compare it to insurgency?

Until they get the vehicles in, there is a LOT of walking unless you have an effective squad leader.
Without effective squad leaders and good team play, it can be a bloody frustrating game. I have rage quit a pants squad on several occasions :projectb:
Then again, playing as squad leader with an effective squad behind you is an amazing if exhausting experience (I can only manage 2 rounds back to back as squadleader before I need a break)
It's insurgency on steriods

it's gonna be all about staying tight and disciplined.
solid squad play, or yeah, you're walking.
firefights are the same too. you have to keep your medics back, and have them heal eachother first.
spread out, don't get everyone pinned down at once with nowhere to retreat.
super super tactical. good shooters might win the skirmish, but brains will win the battle. communication between squad leaders is essential. reading the battlefield is essential. i'll be on it. once i get settled into it i won't bother with insurgency any more.

Ok peeps and drongos...
There are now 5 providers offering Squad that are officially sanctioned by the game designers
  1. Blue Fang (US based)
  2. Fragnet (US Based)
  3. G Portal (German)
  4. Multiplay (UK)
  5. Vilayer (Global)
Most offer London based servers though i'm unsure about G Portal
I've priced for a 54 slot server (would give 3x squads per team, we should really have multiples of 18) over 3 months
  1. Blue Fang......$169.29..£119.72
  2. Fragnet........ $160.38..£113.42
  3. G Portal........€116.64...£ 93.85
  4. Multiplay...................£123.98
  5. Vilayer..........€153.90..£123.83
I am a little unsure why G Portal is so much cheaper? We host our BF server with Fragnet already so that is a good option.

I am willing to pay for a 3 month trial of either a 36 or 54 slot server. Would there be interest in it?

The devs have setup a server licensing system which lists your server on the first server choice screen (details here) & sets the gaming experience for people joining the server. I don't thing we should go for that yet until we see what mods people start producing as we know how much fun Insurgency has been once we started using the mods.

Your thoughts?

The best part of a tenner a week sounds like a lot to me after the price of insurgency servers.
