Ratty's new setup

Post by rattyocaster » Mon May 07, 2018 5:10 pm

Hey guys, as some of you may know, 18 months ago my sister gave birth to my wonderful niece Scarlett. However, due to how my sister and her partners shift patterns work out, roughly 4 nights in 8, my parents have to look after my niece. However, our box room was long ago converted into a study, and then eventually we simplified it a little bit and put a bed in it, initially for me to sleep in whilst my sister was moving house, but latterly my niece sleeps in thereImage
When she was younger she would fall asleep regardless of whether or not I was playing in there, sometimes being more likely to wake up after I left rather than not go to sleep in the first place. However as time has gone on, I didn't want to disrupt her sleep so I'd busy myself doing other things, however this would take time away from my hobby. Then, back in January, a plan was hatched. Dad always saw potential in our loft, especially after one bored afternoon many years ago he decided to store some boards in the loft, then set to work actually nailing them down, found an old roll end of carpet and put it over the top of the boards, rather over the top for just storing bits and pieces but it was inspiration for what happened more recently.
So, in February this year, the cupboard in my bedroom was emptied and we knocked the side wall out of it over the top of the stairs. In the 12 weeks that followed, we had a staircase built and cut through into the loft, a window installed, walls built, insulated and plastered, floor boarded and carpeted, lights installed, electricity installed, multiple network points installed, decorated and this weekend I finally got everything moved upstairs, and the extra space has meant I can have more than one monitor now, so I'm reusing an old gaming monitor. It's also meant that I've got all of my consoles, games, even my guitar and amp all set up and ready to use. On the same subject my dad has brought his amp and bass upstairs as well.

I know my dad isn't going to read this, but he has put a huge amount of time and energy into this project and I'm extremely grateful for everything that he has done.

Thanks guys, sadly the closest thing to a bar is the fridge in the kitchen, down 2 flights of stairs... on the plus side, it's exercise, right? :P
I may improvise in winter though, hanging a bag outside the Velux ;)

The "random door" leads into the part of the loft where we store stuff :)

yeah my folks are glad I didn't want to play drums, however my dad did buy a kit and we used to rent out a local hall so we could have a bit of a jam session every so often, but we got a bit sick of lugging stuff around so he sold it. Some games get very expensive in this house, Wii Bowling turned into 4 bowling balls (2 for me, 2 for dad) 2 pairs of shoes, bags, towels etc. and now Rock Band 4 convinced my dad to buy a bass guitar and an amp.
