Thanks again guys. As for the carpet, we were really lucky and managed to find the same carpet that went down in my room about 4 years ago so it matches right the way through which helps the place look like it's always been part of the house rather than something that has only just been put together.

That is brilliant. And all the better for the fact you've done it between you. I did a loft conversion, but I paid a builder many thousands to do it. It was no better than what you have achieved. Plus, I love the table in the corner over the top of the stairs, nice touch and great use of space.

Well, we did have some help along the way. We had a joiner build and fit the staircase, he also put up the skeleton of the wall between my loft and the storage loft, and helped dad with the Velux, electrician to wire up sockets for speed (cable already run and back plates already in plasterboard) and to make sure it all worked, including putting this room on its own RCD breaker, and a plasterer to do the plastering and a carpet fitter for the carpet, everything else was pretty much my dad's handy work other than me wiring up the ethernet sockets and helping out with some of the planning and lifting. As for the desk over the stairs, it took quite a bit of building as it's also suspending a cupboard with a PC in it over the stairs, I wanted another desk for either a friend to use, or simply as somewhere to use my file server rather than having to remote into it whenever I need to do maintenance, not bad considering that desk started life as my sisters dining table :P

Do you all live together? Are you actually from Norfolk?

No, sister lives away and works 1800-0600 shifts in this town so my folks look after my niece whilst my sister either sleeps or works, I do live with my folks though and North Yorkshire born and bred. Part of the reason I haven't moved out is because property in North Yorkshire is so bloody expensive!
