American Truck Simulator

Post by Projectblue » Mon Sep 18, 2017 10:24 pm

So I picked up a cheeky Humble Bundle for a mere $10 and in it was ATS. I'm a bit of a simulator fan, but sometimes they can leave you a bit, well, bored.
But I love this. It looks and feels great! You get 3 states to explore; California, Nevada and Arizona.
Start with zero money and build. Do the jobs, buy a truck, earn money do upgrades to your truck. If you have experienced Euro Truck Simulator, this is the same but with big rigs and straighter roads.
Top tip if you are thinking of getting this, get the mega loads expansion pack for a couple of quid. It gives much bigger trailers which make for much harder tests of skill.

You can use the in built photo editor to get some great images. Here is an example of what happens when you try to use your phone whilst driving.....

Had a little break, murdered a hooker (joke, it's not GTAV, there aren't any) early morning set off with a 60t Road Scraper.

I own American Truck simulator, but haven't gotten around to playing it, but I did enjoy cruising around in my truck, in Euro Truck simulator 2. Glad to hear it's as good/if not better than Euro truck sim 2

So I was minding my own business and parked up in a rest area over night. When I started going again in the morning, I found this!

Turns out it's an Easter Egg in the game (not as I first thought, 3 giant inflatable rubber ducks that some oddball American had in his yard somewhere in America).

Also, the new map - State of New Mexico has been released as DLC. It's like £8 off CDKeys (or try Kinguin for community rewards) and is a tiny update to the main game.

Nice. How is it compared to ETS2? I played quite a bit of that, but ATS is newer; is it a bit more feature complete?

Thanks for the comments.
I haven't played ETS2 so can't directly compare. I fancied ATS because of, well, big rigs, Convoy, memories of road trips, Smokey & the Bandit, Big sky country, Duel etc etc. So purchased this before the other.

What sort of features might be missing in ETS2? Let me know and I will tell if it's in or not?

In ATS you can borrow from banks, open multiple bases, hire drivers, select load configurations on some jobs, configure the truck (chassis, cab, engine, gearbox and extras). Some stuff not needed like raise/lower seat height, steering wheel rake, mirror adjustments. There is an add on for a kerbside mirror but you never see any cyclists to knock off - er, I mean give room too - to make use of it, so it's erm 'decorative'?

New Mexico DLC has brought extra things like a car on fire on the hard shoulder and FINALLY the twenty thousand cop cars that are apparently present patrolling the highways of just 3 states are finally stopping people cos someone was getting a ticket. Not sure what happens if you hit the officer stood by the car on the shoulder (sorry 'pavement') but hey.
