Looking at getting a new Monitor

Post by Spriggs » Wed Aug 05, 2020 5:00 pm

The title says it all, I am pondering on getting a new monitor.
The main thing that I am thinking about is whether to go curved or not. I am ideally looking around the 27" - 32" area and wonder if people have any recommendations.

I'm currently looking at the following and trying to figure out whats what out there:
Samsung U32R592 32"
Samsung LU28R550UQUXEN 28"
LG UHD 27UL650 - 27 Inch

Feel free to throw abuse that I am looking at the wrong stuff or the like :P

Just something else I could find:
Samsung LC32T550FDUXEN 32"

Maybe 4k can wait for a bit?

Don't worry about curve (as in you won't notice it if you're worried about it).
Go for the Samsung Odyssey G9 ;)
Or the Samsung Odyssey G7.

Thanks for the advise guys, lucky for me my friend is flogging off an old monitor when he is grabbing a 4k one so I'm buying that on the cheap.
Getting a LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B for those curious but I will consider what people put here for when I upgrade again :D

I like my two basic 24 inch AOC screens - but I have heard its a new world playing on 34 inch curved screens....but then everyone told me to do VR and I got the latest great tech and I disliked it....made me feel nauseous - back to normal gaming on 24 inch dual screens. I think playing on a 34 incher would just make me nauseous sitting 1 meter away.

That looks like a good monitor @Spriggs! Especially the high refresh-rate/adaptive-sync stuff. Have you tried it before? I'd honestly say out of anything I've ever upgraded on my setup, the switch from 60 to 144Hz was the most impactful. Everything is so smooth, even just dragging windows around on the desktop is very satisfying :P

@knightmorphed I've been told it's all about how much of your field of view is taken up by the screen. I sit about 60cm away from a 27" flat monitor, but I usually have to increase my in-game FOV to feel comfortable. I have a friend who has the same sized monitor but sits a lot further away, I tried playing on his setup and it just feels wrong to me. I suppose we are all a bit different lol.

I also remember a work colleague a few years ago got himself an ultra-wide curved monitor but he hated it for gaming, so he brought it to the office to use there instead! Although I think it was more the width not the curve that he didn't like...
