Issues with running .exe in Linux/Ubuntu

Post by Cold Blood Nor » Thu May 28, 2020 7:23 am

Hi all,

Any Linux/Ubuntu user here? I seem to run into an issue when trying to run a .exe. I have installed dotnet 461 and 4 but no luck. Wine is running in 32bit as this is something that is needed for the application I am trying to run (it is assetto corsa server manager).

in the terminal i write: wine acServerManager.exe and get the error message below.
this is done in the folder I have the file in: MyName@pop-os:~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/assettocorsa/server$

The entry point method could not be loaded due to Could not load file or assembly 'PresentationFramework, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies.

from what i understand from googling the issue is that this means i dont have the correct .NET installed, but I have installed it, I think...
Im running POP_OS! 20.04 which is Ubuntu based. Neither Asseto Corsa or the AC server manager is natively compatible with linux though. I have tried to run the program with lutris with no luck. I know there is a separate program in steam called AC Server manager but this is not the one I need to run, I need to run the one in the AC folder, hence the command I am trying to run.

Is it at all possible to run this?

Have a look at Lutris see if you can run the server through that. Also, do you have mono installed? That's the opensource inplentation of .NET

Another thing is, if you haven't done so yet, Google "running an assert cores server on linux"

Getting steam to play nicely on Linux is not funny. It's a complete git about software versions!
You need to be running the latest Ubuntu LTS, with the none-free software active to stand a chance.
I will go through my notes and see if I can find the info I used a while back.

Thanks for the tips guys! The thing with the link that Zell gave is that I wont have the UI, which I like.

@darkdeamon yeah, figured out that now  also, the thing with this server manager is that I cant use the one in steam. I have to use the one that is in the folder of the downloaded game

My apologies! I think I just passed that link yesterday as one other that I saw. I got a bit cross eyed with all my tabs :P I'll give it a try!

You could installed the windows version of steam with Lutris, if I'm correct. Plus configuring wine through it is a lot easier.

Lutris is the better option but you may have fun with some of the dependencies
