Assetto Corsa content : tests & benchmarks

Post by Hairy Frog » Tue May 12, 2020 4:29 pm

This is the begining of a topic that I believe will grow up.

My purpose is to check the contents ( Vanilla/DLC/mods/apps etc .... ) and report the ones I found interesting with links, times, reviews etc ....

I'll begin with the cars. I will test them on only one selected track : Blackwood reloaded is a mod, a beautifull fictionnal track ported and re-textured from LFS.
This track is not too long ( 60" to 90" according to the car ), technical enough to highlight the car qualities. It features a long straight preceeded by a technical chain of braking+hairpin+chicane, and followed by a sinuous part where you have to play with down and up hill curves

Blackwood reloaded is the first content I recommend to AC pilots

Proceedure : I'll drive each car in hotlap mode with the ghost on, spawning with a 1" advantage to give me a target ahead. I'll adjust the gearbox lenght if necessary/possible. As I know very well the track, no more than 3 to 8 laps would be enough for me to juge the car .... to my taste

If the car appears ( to me ) to be interesting, I'll display it there with a short review, and the time I did... for information, most of the time this is not the best I may do with the reviewed combo

June 16th : As tiers ( Faithless Monk, ColdBloodNor  ) began to improve my ( not so fast ) times, I'll display their best in green

# Vanilla cars

Abarth 595 S2 the perfect dreamcar has only one drawback : the trailer isn't provided in the mod  1'49"386 1'51"053
Alfa 33 Stradale gives what you expect from an Italian sport car: volcanic engine, reponsiveness to any input, high end chassis : this car is living ! With this only car, the free bonus pack3 would already be a very nice gift, I like it a lot 1'24"680 1'24"379
Audi Sport Quattro S1typical feeling of a 4WD, this is a rally car, with a rally gearbox .... 1'19"120 1'19"645
BMW M3 GT2 the 21st century M3 Schnitzer  1'14"895
BMW Z4 GT3 excellent race car but bad drive, there's a lot of room for improvement, even more with a gearbox set up 1'14"863
Ferrari 312T Not the F1 that made me the most comfortable...Time done with the default setup.... 1'12"335
Ferrari 458 GT2 It behave like a true race car, compared to faster models ( F40, LaFerrari .... ) it is much more enjoying to drive 1'14"750
Ferrari 599X evo hypercar ? monstercar ? Godrari ? Ferzilla ? ... don't be fooled, this is a real beast to tame, it will require much more skill than you think, but .....omfg ! ! ! ! 1'12"277
Glickenhaus P4/5 Competizioni A nice race car, easy to drive and a school for modern race cars 1'15"492
KTM X-Bow R is one of the funiest car you can find to drive in AC 1'21"895 1'21"313
Lamborghini Sesto Elemento not a race car despite the specs, but it drives pretty well 1'14"796
Mc Laren MP4-12C GT3 quite close to the 650S from dream Pack3, although a different car, and some gearbox staggering should improve the time slightly .... 1'14"695
Lotus 2-Eleven Pure fun on Blackwood, this combo is just perfect to learn and develop the main tips of race track driving skills 1'21"568
Lotus 2-Eleven GT4 unlike at Silverstone, I was quite comfortable with the default set up. I'm just a bit surprised by the tiny gap with the std version 1'20"739
Lotus 49 Do not think this car can be simply driven with the wheel or the paddles, you are almost always mixing everything to make it go where you want at the speed you want. And there's only one way to make a '65 F1 work : on the edge ! 1'17"663
Lotus 98T meet the red zone .... if you dare  This time is far from being good 1'10"248
Lotus Evora GTC A race car .... 1'14"655
Lotus Evora GTE Good car for learning sim driving, the behaviour is closer to that of a race car than the S version, and a better drive should improve the time 1'26"114
Lotus Evora GTE carbon Not yet a race car, but good dynamics 1'22"195
Lotus Evora GX grip, grip grip ... did I say grip ? if grip is missing, it is probably because the tires are not touching the ground .... 1'15"227
Lotus Evora S stage 2 a good car for learning : just as responsive and predictable as needed when you are seeking the limit. Not the funiest one though 1'26"226
Lotus Exige Scura not that much power but the car is light and the chassis is above any criticism. The true spirit of Lotus is in the corner speed  1'25"087
Lotus Exige V6 Cup not bad at all for a Club Monotype 1'22"810
Lotus Exos T125 STD time done after only 3 laps, not using the DRS and no change at all to the set up .... no comment 1'04"692
Lotus Exos T125 S1 .... F1 Cosworth 2009 engine, 750bhp, at 18000rpm ...if you go beyond who knows what can hapen .... time done after only 3 laps, not using the DRS and no change at all to the set up .... the 59"xxx were in range, that was obvious, and it was proven a few days after the test, while a hotlap session with Monk : 0'59"825 0'57"721
Mazda 787B The car you must drive on the Nordschleife 1'11"668
Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 Nice sound, nice feeling...1'14"239
Pagani Huayra BC I got the 300kmh tag with it 1'14"809
Pagani Zonda R The jet fighter by Pagani 1'11"353
Shelby Cobra 427 S/C The mythic Cobra is a challenge for your pilot skills.... but be carefull, the Cobra's bite is lethal, and the beat is ... lethal too  1'26"756
Taatus FA01 a nice school single seater. I only adjusted the 4th and 5th lenght in the setup 1'14"098

# DLC cars

Dream Pack #1

Alfa Romeo 155 Ti V6 is a magnificent race car, Nicola Larini won the 1993 DTM championship with it. The car in AC is up to its legend. If you play manual, be always gentle when shifting, as the gearbox can break easily. 1'20"272
Alfa Romeo 4C although being a street car, it can show a nice behaviour on track 1'26"949
Alfa Romeo GTA If I had to build my car collection, this is the very first one I'd seek ( and the 33 Stradale right after, then the 155 Ti V6  ). So do not expect me to be too much objective about the GTA. This said I was not happy with this default setup 1'36"801
BMW 325i Race Car, not slower for sure, but unexcpectingly more difficult to master than the Alfa 155 above. I didn't feel any difference with traction control on or off, the rear was unpredictable either way .. maybe some setup work necessary ? 1'21"740
Chevrolet Corvette C7.R GTE The Le Mans's war machine we know ... I lack the feeling with this car, so I didn't try very hard nor very long 1'13"773
McLaren F1 GTR this car is a diva : fantastic feelings, but somewhat a bitch if you don't do it her way. If you find how it works, you'll beat this time by far 1'16"164
Mercedes-Benz 190E EVO II Very nice chassis, good feeling when closing the limit, and even when trespassing, you can always recover and minimize the loss of time. Easy to place and keep on the good trajectory ... probably due to the tiny crosshair in front of the car  1'21"213
Mercedes-Benz C9 1989 LM a beast as hard to tame as the ACL Porsche 917K 1'12"693
Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 A nice GT3, by the easiest to push 1'13"070 1'11"938

------------------------------------------------------

Dream Pack #2

Audi R8 LMS Ultra I havent reached the limit yet ..... 1'13"382
Glickenhaus SCG-003 Interesting to drive, can be faster thant that 1'13"302
Lamborghini Huracan GT3 The video says " quite tricky to understand ... etc " ....I agree 1'14"393

--------------------------------------------------

Dream Pack #3

Abarth 500 Assetto Corse is not the fastet, by far, but it is fun to drive and homogenous. Summing up, it is a perfect platform for monotype club track races 1'29"251
Ford Escort RS 1600 a lot of fun in that car. The drift is easy to control, but the hard of it is to avoid it to not waste the power. I had to change the set up to do this time 1'29"333
Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo the first lap was already faster thant the GT3 version... simply a better feeling 1'14"055
Mc Laren 650S GT3 while the first laps, I thought I could beat the Ferrari 599X evo ..... 1'15"444
Lotus 72D No sir, the D is not standing for diesel  1'13"239
Classic Team Lotus Type 25 Weak brakes, weak grip, somewhat peaky engine ..... Actually, I do not know a car that would be more difficult to push hard. If you can drive it like on this video, then you can say you are a trully skillfull driver 1'33"069
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 despite trying hard, I couldn't beat the time I did whith the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 1'13"528

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Ferrari 70th Anniversary Pack

Ferrari F2004 is one of the most successful car in F1 history, that earned his 7th world tittle to Michael Schumacher 0'55"905

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese Pack

Mazda MX-5 Cup very fun to push hard, I haven't found yet its limit on Blackwood. A perfect choice for monotype club-racing 1'29"436
Mazda RX7 Spirit R has a good chassis, but it is the NSU engine that counts, and both make it the first entry from the Japanese Pack 1'28"109
Toyota Supra MkIV time attack In GT on PSX I already prefered other cars to the Supra, it hasn't changed. It is however ( and yet ) a good challenge in hotlaps 1'24"571

-------------------------------------------------

Porsche Pack #1

Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 1973 As usual I'm not comfortable with the RSR 3.0, no matter the sim. All the more with the default setup. The car is nice in every aspects however .... 1'25"492
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Porsche 917/30 Spyder Can be a lot faster, but the turbo make it as brutal and difficult to manage as the Lotus 98T 1'12"881
Porsche 935 78 Moby Dick Taming Moby Dick without a harpoon isn't a simple task .... 1'15"987
Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport a nice modern racecar... a bit too perfect for my personal taste, like many of this generation 1'18"850

--------------------------------------

Porsche Pack #3

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 2017 Time done with some setup, there's a lot of room for improvement though. one of my best driving experience with a 911. As usual with a 911, a few laps are necessary to adapt to the peculiar balance of the car, but once integrated, it proves both fast and enjoying to drive. Think fluid like a torrent. Be smooth and always prioritize the car balance, and you'll be rewarded 1'14"857
Porsche 911 GT3 R 2016 Drives differently from the RS Cup above though still typically 911. The car seem more sensible to tires temp, so take care ! 1'13"544
Porsche 911 GT3 RSR 2017 Time done easily after two laps, so a lot to improve. I'd like to confont this GTE to a Corvette C6R or C7R and the likes  1'12"533

---------------------------------------------------------------

Ready to race DLC pack

Audi R8 LMS 2016 Nice and homogenous, pleasant to drive 1'12"740
Audi TT Cup 2016 I needed several laps to feels comfortable with this car, and once ABS and TC switched off, things went really better. In fine, I appreciated this TT a lot. 1'22"167
Audi TT RS (VLN) EZven with ABS and TC off, the behaviour of this car so natural that it is never difficult to drive. Although we feel the weight in the curves, it can be really fast 1'16"112

----------------------------------------------------

Red pack

Ferrari 488 GT3this time is not significant, because I only did one timed lap. But this is the very first 21st centy=ury Ferrari that I enjoy to drive as much as the classic ones that made the legend of that brand ! I want to drive it more 1'15"134
Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 A GT4, thus a bit slower than a GT3.... Can probably be faster with a set up. A bit tricky with the std set up, but interesting to drive however 1'19"653

# AC LEGENDS

This mod is made of three car packs, both related to vintage race cars, so you don't need to install all 3 . It is also available for rfactor2, directly by the workshop

1) AC Legends Prototypes contains some of the most iconic prototypes that made the ... legend of Le Mans, by the turn of the 60' to 70'

Chaparral 2E : Light, huge engine, only three strokes in the gearbox .. you don't need more  => 1'16"036
Ferrari 312PB : the feeling is incredibly up to date for a vintage proto, the sound is incredible, a very enjoyable car to drive, in many aspects => 1'15"904
Ferrari 330 P4 this is the version included into the ACL mod, not the one that comes with the Ferrari 70th anniversary pack DLC. The traditional competitor of the Ford GT40 can be summed up into one word : ELEGANT. Everything, from the sublime design - The most beautifull prototype ever made, imho - to the sound and the behaviour on the track is elegant. Even the driving style inducted is.... I expected it to be faster, and perhaps there is still a tip or two to find, but it doesnt really matter, as the car is really a blast to drive 1'16"792
Ferrari 512S another splendid red prototype from this blessed era of car racing. Some setup will be necessary 1'16"334
Ford GT40 MkIV DREAMPACK 2 DLC IS NECESSARY TO HAVE THIS CAR WORKING. If the Ferrari 330 P4 was a cheetah, the GT40 would be a rhino. Amazing power in the straights, but keeping it fast in the curves is a combat. This time is not significant, the GT40 MkIV can do muuuuucchhh better ! 1'18"075
Mc Laren M1b : The car is midway between the Chaparral 2E and the Ferrari F312PB, along with the 4 strokes gearbox vs 5 in the Ferrari, and the general behaviour => 1'15"808
McLaren M8C Very nice chassis behaviour, vintage but accurate, with undersized brakes ! :surprised: 1'14"892
Lola T280 The chassis is very efficient. The engine climbs high in rpm with a nice sound , but it is very fragile. I broke it several times, you'll have to be very cautious with the clutch. But once on the track you'll only be interested in seeking the limit... that is far  1'18"576
Lola T290 is a Group5 race car thus the slower time. Nothing to desprise however, the car is brilliant 1'22"649
Lola T70 MkIII I had to change deeply the bars and diff set up to make it driveable, and I think it is still possible to be much faster. The engine is giving a brutal feeling, somewhat like a muscle car 1'16"142
Lola T70 MkIIIb Same chassis same set up but the Chevy 350 gen1 engine made the car much more enjoyable to drive 1'15"590
Porsche 917K Be carefull, a hard-topped race car make you sweat  1'15"095

2) AC Legends Classics : Good old GT Legends inside ! De Tomaso Panthera, Ford Capri, 911RSR, Porsche 908, Ferrari, 365 GTB, Corvette Stingray and many more .... This sis the car pack I prefer by far. Because the cars are very different from each other, and from a track to another, not the same are dominant ... but all are enjoying to drive

BMW CSL 3.5 the car is very difficult to drive efficiently, because although the chassis is good, it can hardly filter the brutality of the engine. I had to set up a bit to tame the beast 1'24"035
Chevrolet Corvette 1967 It drives, sounds, and wears the tires like a vintage Corvette ... and it is worth 1" better at least ! 1'24"166
Chevrolet Corvette 1969 It drives, sounds, and wears the tires like a vintage Corvette 1'23"624
De Tomaso Pantera In a F1, you KNOW that the amount of grip is far above your own limits ( most of the time  ), in the Pantera, you can FEEL the grip ! this car is incredibly trusty and reliable when you push it 1'20"711
Ferrari 365 GTB S3 Superb ! the car is enjoying to push, and has this time was only done after 2 laps, you can imagine what is left to improve  1'23"530
Ford Capri RS3100 All the the Muscle Car Spirit into a high end GT ... the vid says it all 1'24"703
Nissan GTR2000 the prequel of the renown Skyline, it lives up to the name .... 1'22"822
Porsche 906 With only 220bhp, do not even dream to overtake any of your competitors in the straights ... but with only 617kg and high end aerodynamics, you are driving a demoniac tool to brake-pass, and your corner speed is second to none 1'21"051
Porsche 911 RSR 2.8 PORSCHE PACK 1 DLC IS NECESSARY TO HAVE THIS CAR WORKING. In the GT Legends mod on rFactor1, I didn't like 3.0, but the 2.8 was in my selection ... this hasn't changed ! 911 are different, and the RSR 2.8 is pure fun to drive. It is just missing some top speed to make a good time on Blackwood 1'23"048
Porsche 911 RSR '74 PORSCHE PACK 1 DLC IS NECESSARY TO HAVE THIS CAR WORKING. Very nice, very 911, very fun 1'22"269
Shelby Daytona is a tuned AC Cobra with a hard top.... I expected to face a challenge just to drive it clean, but no, it turns and brakes ok, better than the average muscle car. And the journey was hypnotic : voodoo engine sound, zoom like accelerations... 1'22"481

-----2bis) A mod in the mod ... yes that can hapen. This link leads to a page from the site of a quite renown French simmers league. They have set their own historical championship up. To do so they re-introduced the historical car rating that already existed in the GT Legends game ( GTC/TC 65 - 76 - 88) and added several excellent car mods to the ACL Classics car-pack.... Yes you'll have to translate from French, but the link to dl is easy to find. ... Let me advise you to go on the 3 FB links that will show you what the mod looks like

65E4-Chevrolet Camaro '68 The sound is amazing, the car dynamics are awesome, can do a better time than that ! 1'23"710
65E4-Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8 AMG The car any doctor should have to face any emergency situations  1'23"828
76E4-BMW 320I This car is not of this earth, I already know I can improve by 0.750" and there is probably some place for even more 1'18"290
76E4-Ferrari 512 BB The car looks weird with its massive front shield, but it sound and drive nicely 1'18"055
88E1-BMW 850 CSI Not as much potential as the 320i above, unexpectingly 1'18"173
88E1-Ferrari 288 GTO Tifoso or no not, the GTO label always bring something special ... you just have left to discover what  1'16"902

3) AC Legends Trans Am : Muscle cars ! Ford Mustang, Plymouth Barracuda, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro and the likes ... Tons of steel, tons of horses, tons of testosterone
Although the ingame car specs are the same for all cars - but the Mustangs, that are lighter than the others - I believe that the engine specs differ, at least between the Mustangs and the Cuda. You'll need some laps to understand how to drive them efficiently....

AAR Cuda aka Plymouth Barracuda, big torque everywhere, big sound => 1'24"690
AMC Javelin The chassis is a bit more accurate than usual, making it feel almost "European"... don't wory, the long travel of the suspensions, and the 4 gears will remind you quickly what kind of car you are driving  1'23"929
Chevrolet Camaro '69 The Camaro is the Camaro since the begining. Driving it was a nice trip 1'23"973
Chevrolet Camaro '70 nothing really new .... 1'23"899
Dodge Challenger One of the most docile car of the pack, can probably record a better time 1'24"724
Ford Mustang a bit lighter than the other cars of the pack and it handles obviously better 1'22"183
Boss Mustang this version is expected to be better than the std Mustang but .... 1'22"405
Mercury Cougar For singles only ? 1'23"541
Pontiac Firebird same as above, the time difference is mainly due to experience => 1'22"595

--------------------------------------------------

Alpine Renault mods
Although this is not a car-set, I'll show them as if, because all the links are on the same page from Assettoland ....

Renault-Alpine A442B 1977 A very nice and fun protoype to drive. Some setup is necesary on the gear final ratio, because the original is way too short. And anyway be very carefull with the rpm, be it switching up or dow, as there is no limiter, and thus you can break the engiine in no time RD link there 1'14"564

----------------------------------------------------------

# BTCC by T7R

These touring cars are modern racing cars, and the "Touring" is just to say, you can trust me, ... oh ! I forgot : your stepmother may not appreciate the journey

BMW125i M sport is probably the easiest car of this pack on on Blackwood 1'17"470
Ford Focus ST A bit more difficult with this one, despite some set up 1'18"085
Toyota Avensis ... not bad for a FWD berline 1'17"884
Honda Civic Type R One more FWD that can shred the tarmac 1'17"564

-------------------------------------------------------

Alfa Romeo GTAM ... In fine I found a worthy mod for the GTAM, and I'm happy because worthy is just few words. The model is the 1750 of 1969, clearly a race car prepared for GT championships. It did not have the succes of the former version, because the competion was just stronger, but it remains a very nice car to drive in AC. The Quality of the mod is awesome ! 1'28"152

----------------------------------------------------------

BMW M1 Procar the dl link is in the YT page ... Very interesting car to drive, although not that simple to find how to push it well. The sound is amazing.1'17"743

-----------------------------------------------------------

Caterham Super 7 1700 Super Sprint A 3 in 1 mod, but strictly cosmetic, the 3 variants handle the same. Very fun car, with brilliant behaviour on track the guy on the vid is laughing, just like I was when testing it  1'33"061

---------------------------------------------------------

Corvette C6R is a MUST HAVE, actually my best time on Blackwood Reloaded, A nice demo vid at Mugello ... no need to say more 1'15"679

--------------------------------------------------------

Coyote Corvette DP A Corvette .... Really ? 1'09'026

-------------------------------------------------------

Dallara Corvette DP same car as above I guess. I just drove the Coyotte a bit better... video 1'09"409

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dallara F312 aka F3 2012, is a very good introduction to high performance single seaters 1'12"336

-------------------------------------------------------------

Dallara F317 aka F3 2017 all that is written above applies to this one too .... with a bit more performance  1'09"281

----------------------------------------------------

Ford Transit ... DHL, Pizza Hut, Lo Fat Nems, Mario & Luigi inc ... come and live the legend of these great racing teams  .... doing hotlaps against my own ghost was already hillarious. This truck is just the warranty to make some of the most WTF races.... The tip for Blackwood track : FOUR is the word  1'58"846

------------------------------------------------------------

Formula RSS 3 V6 a fictionnal car created by Race Sim Central to organize their own online championship. I havent tried a F1 or F2 yet, but I guess this is not far.... 1'07"799

---------------------------------------------------------

Ginetta G55 SuperCup 2017 LHD & RHD a nice race car for monotype races 1'17"699

-----------------------------------------------------------

Indycar 2020 by APEX This mod may not be at the level of the one from RSS, but it is free. And thus no worries if you wanna try it, but the 1.5go dowload to have the mod + 1.1 update. The file includes all the official skins + pilots and helmets .... So if you are interested in living virtually the ( shortened  ) 2020 championship, be it stand alone or eventually online, all is there to do so !
... After a few laps, all I can say is that if this mod is below the RSS one, the RSS must be epic ! The APEX car is magnificent in external, and the cockpit is as well. The # 22 skin ( Simon Pagenaud  ) is flawless. The car is incredible to drive but very demanding, much more difficult than the Lotus Exos T125. Strangely, the time is slower than the Lotus, whereas everything is jumping to your windscreen. You have to always be ready to control the car, and you have to be much more acurate than with the Exos, be it with the wheel, the brakes, the throttle.
In one word and imho : much more realistic when it comes to high performance single seaters 1'01"740

-------------------------------------------------------------

Koenigsegg One:1 (Upgraded Turbo) The one:1 is an old mate, that I drove in several races on Race07, the most memorable being a 10 laps race on the Schleiffe. This version is even more powerfull. So much HP and Nm that most of the the time, you will have to drive with an ...egg under your right foot  . Do not reject this this mod if this version is making you sweat too much, it comes in 4 diferent variants, the upgraded turbo one is the most savage of the four. 1'10"787

-----------------------------------------------------

Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF A nice little FWD rally car. More points in common with the AWD Alfa GTA than differences, and this is very positive. This time can be improved by 1" at least 1'38"067
Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF SI 50 more bhp, race brakes, slick tires, an excellent default setup for FWD drifters ..... so much anything that I do not have the patience to refit the car deeply now :x 1'44"886

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These 2 cars deserve to be added to the AC Legends Prototype mod :

Lola T70 mkII Spyder brutal engine, it makes the car touchy to push on Blackwood, but I found the challenge is interesting 1'19"413
Lola T70 mkII Ford second version of the same mod, features a Ford engine. A bit less hp, a bit more torque where it is good to have it. In theory this version should perform less, but it is easier to push 1'19"020

------------------------------------------------------

Lotus cortina 1966 Some prefer the Alfa GTA, some prefer the Cortina .... choose your weapon and fight ! 1'37"992

----------------------------------------------------

Mazda 787B Definetely a high quality mod I could hardly do a clean lap in the begining, and some setup work was necessary. My times improved lap after lap, and I should have recorded a 1'09"8xx without a big mistake in a corner exit where I did not feel any probleme in the previous laps .... This mod is better than the vanilla car imho 1'11"085

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oreca FLM09 This is car difficult, but rewarding. Just keep in mind that the diff has a big preload even with the lowest setting, thus you have to litteraly drive your diff to put the car where you want it to go. Another tip : the aero is too much by default, reduce it by half 1'10"589

-------------------------------------------------------------

Posche 911 by Singer
This mod is pure gem, it offers 3 different versions of the unavoidable and so iconic German sport car. Be carefull though, a 911 can't be driven like any other car, so be prepared to change your paradigm

911 4.0 1244kg 390hp 427nm .... a tuned model from California. Do not pay to much attention to the time, as the car would have required a big setup work to be up to my own taste, it is worthy however 1'22"682
911 3.8 1244kg 300h 256nm .... incredibly easy, intuitive, comfortable 1'24"892
911 4.0 AWD perhaps a bit more experience, a bit more predictability .....1'22"468

----------------------------------------------------

R5 GT turbo Gr4 Rally car inside ! This car is very badly fitted to Blackwood, because its short gearbox is a handicap there. The top speed ( 194kmh ) is reached before halfway in the straight (so no need to add about the ability to accelerate ) ... Despite, it is so efficient and quick as soon as max speed is no more to mention. You can expect that the R5Turbo will provide a great experience and fun in hill climb and other rally like maps .... my time is far from what the car can do, even at Blackwood 1'26"409

-----------------------------------------------------

Renault R8 Gordini ... 855kg, 103bhp, 80Nm, the aerodynamics of a shoe box, engine rear deported ... just like a Porsche 911  ... La Gordini is a piece of race history. Several generations of French race and rally pilot began with this car in the 60's. But in fact, the only behaviour of this car would legitimate a place into this list. Don't be bothered by the poor time on Blackwood, you will enjoy driving it ..... once mastered  1'32"899

------------------------------------------------------

Renault Formula 3.5 2014 One step from the F1, the 3.5 offers similar feelings while ( a bit ) not so demanding in terms of skill. This mods comes with 3 different aero kits : Std, LDF, HDF. 1'08"061

---------------------------------------------

Seat leon TCR DSG try a high end FWD race car and taste the difference  ..... 1'19"223

--------------------------------------------------------

Seat Leon Eurocup Lil sis' likes to play, and it does it well, the car is easy to drive, and easy to push. But the typical behaviour of a powerfull FWD is not there. You guess well I prefer by far the TCR mod above that has also a lot more potential, anyway ... 1'19"254

-----------------------------------------------------

Skip Barber 2000 Regional the Skippy is one of the cheapest actual single seater .... ok, it is a school car, and with 149bhp for 567kg, it is not a war machine. But everything is where you need it, and do not forget that when it comes to racing, the speed of the carS is not the main ingedient to have fun 1'31"753

-----------------------------------------------------

TVR Cerbera Speed 12 Race Car, another monster that remind me of the good old Cerbera Le Mans in GT on PSX... 975kg, 880bhp, 881Nm .... no comment ...I was literally unable to make a lap with the vanilla set up, but exceptionally, because I felt a huge potential, I tried to make it a bit more predictable. And although I'm far from being satisfied with my setup, I decided to recommend the car.... at least because the challenge. I requested FaithlessMonk to come to my aid and try the the car, hoping he will find a tip to tame the beast .... so expect this comment to be updated later on ... 1'12"460
A few hours later => Faithlessmonk : this car is a bitch ! .... 1'07"626 ROFL !

---------------------------------------------------

TVR Tuscan Challenge (1989) a nice Cabriolet delivered with a wide choice of race skins .... perfect for monotype 1'19"995

-----------------------------------------------------

Veloce GTS 8 A fictional dream car. Is this the AC Cobra by Ferrari ? or the Dino by Carol Shelby ?
It doesn't matter, this mod is well made and is worth you try it 1'21"593

Here we go with the wacky mods

Cavendish Banana First time ever that I drive a banana powered by a V8. The grip is very good for a banana. The vehicle is very tiny, you may confuse the width of the track with the lenght if you do not pay attention

and be carefull, the FFB is somewhat slippery

1'59"452

----------------------------------------------

City bus Not sure users will all appreciate

--------------------------------------------------

Citroen 2CV La "2 Pattes" is slow ..... who cares when he owns one ? just race with other 2CV and enjoy the freshness  2'09"958

---------------------------------------------------

Citroen 2CV 1970 is another 2CV mod that I just discovered, it comes in three versions stock, race and tuned ..... The download lnk is on the YT page
# Stock : It sounds and drive closer to the true thing than the mod above. And it comes with 19 splendid skins that reproduce the historic colors of the 70' stock ! 2'08"856
# Race :          1'27"189
# Tuned : feels slightly different than the race version ( street tyres ? ) and is a bit slower, but still funny 1'30"721

----------------------------------------------------

Ford F350 Stair Truck a 4 in 1 mod, the four verions differ by their .... peculiar aerodynamics

# STD is a bulk chassis. Nothing special, it sounds nice ( big V8 ) and drive grossly like a muscle car 1'42"011
# FB means probably "For Barn" ... it almost the same, it goes exactly the same .....
# Stairs ... this looks really .... different. This huge aeroynamic appendice does a lot of things : the car wieight changes from 1.66T to 4T, so very good for the....mechanical grip  Otherwise, the drawback is that the center of gravity is sensibly eightened, inducing a an obvious trend to rolling that is not without reminding me another mod of a French car that is reviewed above
And last but not least : there are probably tracks where the ceiling won't allow you to race
# Bed : One more cosmetic mod, no diference with STD & FB but the look

-----------------------------------------------------

Ford Transit ... DHL, Pizza Hut, Lo Fat Nems, Mario & Luigi inc ... come and live the legend of these great racing teams  .... doing hotlaps against my own ghost was already hillarious. This truck is just the warranty to make some of the most WTF races.... The tip for Blackwood track : FOUR is the word  1'58"846

----------------------------------------------

Honda Acty HA3 not a competitor to the Ford transit on Blackwood, it still can be faster on a more sinuous track ... but will you be courageous enough to challenge Bob the Worker ? 2'03"794

--------------------------------------------

Honda CB750 Xkart heavily boring to drive on the tarmac, it is probably fun on dirt ... let's give it a chance ... Needless to say that this video do not reflect my feeling at all

--------------------------------------------

Honda HF2620 Racing Mower : deceiving, the fact that it is a tuned lawn mower isn't enough to make it fun, imho. If you want to have fun with this style of driving, just take a KTM XBow .... 1'30"184

------------------------------------------------

Go Kart the mod features 7 diferent version mainky based on diferent engines and or transmission :

#Go Kart 50 : 13bhp thus hardly fitted to Blackwood with a top sped of 113kmh, but the physics make it already a fun vehicle to drive .... try to lap Blackwood without releasing the throttle ... I believe it is possible, although I haven't done it .... yet  1'52"998
#Go Kart 100 more power and more fun, this time I adjuste the final ratio 1'40"590
#Go Kart 125 each time you add hp and engine weight to the chassis, the track reveals or increase some diffculties, I think it is really worth to try all these karts one after each other, you may learn a lot about both the driving and the track itself 1'38"676
#Go Kart 125 Shifter .... the gearbox changes a lot of things .... and my time isn't good .... I mean not even as bad a the preceeding ones  1'31"436
#Go Kart 250 even with final ratio and soft slicks I couldn't do better than 1'41"883 .... the 250 is nerfed and less powerfull than the 125
#Go Kart 270 ... just a cow, limited to 73kmh
#Go Kart 290 ... same shit as the 270, forget it

SO, the first 4 are very interesting to drive, the 3 last are not worth to mention....

-------------------------------------------

Patriot Go Kart Three kart of different classes, Russian origin ...
# KS-76 class C2 125cm3, 30bhp, 75kg, 6 speeds gearbox . This is the equivalent of the 125 Shifter above .... I LOVE IT ! 1'41"086
# KS-76 class union A Not very interisting on Blackwood, no braking, and the only point where relmeasing the throttle is necessary is the hairpin 1'57"852
# KS-76 class union B a bit more hp than class A, same 4 gearbox, the C2 is waaaaaay better 1'46"836

------------------------------------------

Ligier JS8 S1 Sorry sir, this is NOT a 70' Formula one  The base is a car that can be driven on the French roads without a driving licence. It has been tune up to 25bhp :surprised: and wears speed stripes, the potential is however interesting on for karting tracks races 2'23"712

--------------------------------------------

Reliant Robin mk1 you know you found the limit when ..... you are on the roof

Crew chief : "Mmmmmmh ... unlucky mate, it looks painfull"

They dared to call this car "Reliant" ... OMFG

---------------------------------------------

RV Motor Home is not really interesting ... until you assign a pair of buttons to the turbo pressure management  . Then you drive a 6T and 10M long muscle car    1'45"984

-----------------------------------------------

School bus the dl link is on the YT page.... Do not be late at the pick up, for sure the bus won't  1'16"004

-----------------------------------------------

Tula TGA-200 Muravey can you imagine something worst thant a Reliant Robin ? here it is ! First crash after ... 30m ! .... maybe I could have been ambitious and aim to 35, but I felt I could hardly do better

We should organize a drag race with this thing, I'm sure the show would be ... entertaining

=EBS= CollBloodNor : I just had the honor to drive the Tula TGA-200 Muravey around Blackwood this evening. But calling it Tula seems a bit wrong. It was more like a lime green speed monster on three wheels.
As every racer with respect for themselves and their trade craft knows, wheels weigh a lot. Therefore true racers knows that 4 wheels are over rated and the best number of wheels are 3. This green speed monster can get up to an astonishing 78 km/h on the straight, downhill, with the wind coming from the rear.
After getting to grips with this monster of a vehicle I was able to get around the track in a whopping 2.39.515 ! I have to attribute that time to good tire management, low fuel, the green colour, and pure racing talent.
The vehicle itself was nice to drive (easier with no FFB?). Had to ease the throttle a little in the corners, but the green speed monster was planted on the ground with at least two wheels around the corners. Again, the green colour probably helped the car stick to the ground as it felt closer to mother nature.
Overall 11/10 in coolness on the track. However, I hope the luggage I had in the room behind survived...

How to set up a ghost in Assetto Corsa ?

it works only in Hotlaps mode. When in the hotlaps menu, click on the Session column, this will open the following :

Image

Simply check "ghost car" to activate, then choose the advantage given to the ghost ( 0" to 5") when it spawns.

TRACKS !

Be they vanilla or mods, the tracks are reviewed in this post. I'll do some hotlaps with the KTM X-Bow, a car whose times are average by vanilla cars, and a resonably easy behaviour in most conditions. beside the reviw itseld, I'll try to bring two informations : an average (range of) time in ", and a rating ( Must have, Worth a try, or Can do Without ). As a track test is longer to do as car's, I'll stress on mod tracks, the Vanilla and DLC being more easy to acess and appreciate.

Vanilla Tracks

DLC Tracks

Mod Tracks

-----------------------

Albi 1967 recreation of one of the oldest permanent tracks existing in France built on the local airport. The actual features several chicanes that did not exist in 1967. The modders did a corect job with the environment, and good on the track itself. Although laid on a flat terrain, the tarmac is not as slick as it seem, and the grip feels a bit different when crossing the landing strips. The layout features long fast curves, not that easy to play with the limit, and for sure tire wear will bring changes along the races...it is Worth a try

----------------------------------------------------

Barbagallo

-----------------------------------------------------

Blackwood The other Blackwood mod. Not as beautifull as the Reloaded, by far. But it is featuring all the original variants aka no chicane, rallyX and reverse. that make the mod a 6 in 1. But imho, the no chicane version do not bring anything interesting on such a short track, and the gravel part of the rallyX variants is a joke, with a gravel almost as grippy as the tarmac.... very far from the LFS RallyX ! ! ! so yes, in my mind, only Blackwood Reverse is eventually Worth a try, but for the 5 other variants, for sure you Can do Without

-------------------------------------------------------------

...and of course the very first to be reviewed is .... Blackwood Reloaded. This is a fictional track ported from the good old Live For Speed sim. In this mod, the original track has been ported to Assetto Corsa, and retextured. The result is true eye candy, everywhere you look at it, you would never guess that tit is fictional, but rather a very cool modelisation of a real world thing. But its true value is in the quality of the track itself : fun and technical at the same time, with a long straight preceded by a chain of hairpin+chicane, and followed by more technical second half, that turns from hill to hill. This track has an exceptional balance that could allow cars to get the best either by pure power/top speed, or agility and corner speed. Another quality for hotlapping : the times are most between 60" and 90". All this are reasons why this is my test track. If I merged all the laps I did on this track in AC and LFS, the figure would probably be counted in thousands.... Must have Must have Must have Must have Must have Must have .. did I mention that this track is a Must have ?

-----------------------------------------

Bridgehampton

------------------------------------------

Brno in Czechoslovakia. This track is full of souvenir of classic racing on rFactor, and GT races on Race07 and GTR Evolution. The true thing is well known for hosting a MotoGP event. The mod is well made, settled in a beatifull trees landslide. The track itself is like what I always felt, with diverse curves ( most reminding me of Blackwood ) elevation, straights... it is a Must have

------------------------------------------

Circuit Bugatti dl link is on the YT page. Located at Le Mans, the 24H event is only using the the pit lane straight from this track, that also host the French venue of MotoGP. The mod repoduces beautifully the original track. Do not be surprised by the slickness of the tarmac, the true thing is as well. The layout is obviously on the mid side : although I never hapen to use the 6th wit hthe KTM X-Bow, most curves are not that slow, they are even rather long and passed in 3rd/4th. The Bugatti is the best track I know to improve your accuracy and consistancy. The kind of track that as any simmer you Must have in your game. Just to test new cars .... or yourself

-----------------------------------------------

Charade This old road track located in the center of France was opened in 1958. It saw Jim Clark win in Formula one while the famous 65' season. The mod is a 2 in 1 that features historical 8km layout, and the actual shorter that is "only" 4km. Because it is settled on the 2 side of a valley, it offers sinuous parts, but also fast zones, with very technical curves and brakings a bit everywhere.

# The long track simply reminded me a lot of the Nordschleiffle although half shorter a bit wider, and more elevation. The tarmac as a good grip but is bumpy, most of it is going through woods, enhancing the feeling of speed. A lot of fast zones in a mountain road type.... the average time should 3' to 3'30"

# The short track feels the same, simply shorter but with a higher density of technical moves  average time slightly below 2'

Very beautifull track, historic track, f....g technical track it is Worth a try ... AT LEAST

-------------------------------------------------

Dijon-Prenois A great F1 GP of the 70', it is still hostig great GT series races. My best race souvenir was made on this track.... The mod is well made but as the true thing, quite technical with fast curves, and reverse bankings that are touchy when the tires are worn ... Must Try

-------------------------------------------

Donington Park

---------------------------------------------

Fat_Alfie tracks

Alfie is a modder whose I discovered the work by chance, while checking Race Department's track mods list. His work is of such high level of quality that they fully deserve to be reviewed under the name of their author. Not only the guy is a talented modder, but he is also a good writer, you would lose something not reading his comments on the making of each of his tracks, you can trust me...... Needless to say that the 4 following opus are Must have

# Deutschlandring This old track was doomed. Ordered in the 30' by the Third Reich in view to host the 1940 F1 GP, it never hosted any race ! Alfie recreated it thanks to historical documentation and personal journey on the site. The track is tiypical of what existed by these years, think Monza, Spa, Hockneim, Reims, Montlery etc ... Big blocks are ruling there, it is VERY fast ! Most of the track is going through a forest and consist in very fast and long curves, but a tiny last quarter that is a hillclimb with not so slow hairpins. Summing up, it is set in a BEAUTIFULL natural landslide, very fast, and very dangerous. Classic race cars are not mandatory, you just need speed overall  I only did one timed lap 3'47"335

# Feldbergring Even more in the fast side : only one hairpin, a handfull of medium curves, and all the rest of the 11.5km is made of very fast curves all diferent from each other. Like the Deutschlandring, trees are everywhere and never far. unlike the Deutsclandring, you'll race through a village whose streets ( downhill not straigth at all ! ) are paved, offering a grip that is not different enough from tarmac imho. You can expect times around 4', but Beware : if you can breathe while driving here, it is because you are not pushing hard enough !

# Fonteny is not exactly a fictionnal track. The author was seeking on maps, for months, a ring of existing roads that coul compare to the Nordschleiffe ! He ended on a 26km layout located in France, in the Parc Naturel du Morvan, and so Fonteny is born ... from scratch. As usual, the work is amazing, 100 000 trees ! thousand buildings, cows, dogs, people .... The track itself differs a lot from the Schleiffe, however. It is more sinuous, and humpy, with a lot of blind curves, you'll be slower than on the Schleiffe. It is at least as challenging to record and to learn - if not even more ! - than its German counterpart, and it is less forgiving, by far. Notice that the mod comes 2 in 1 with a reverse variant.

# ThomsonRoad GP Last but not least, this track offers 4865m of PURE FUN . Settled in a superb jungle environment, the layout is supposed to recreate an existing former Malaysian street track. But imho, it feels a bit more like a permanent track. Most of the track consist in a twisted road that is very much like the Snake sector of Suzuka, but way longer. The rest is made of dog legs that you'll drive flank, but be carefull to the hairpins and some slower curves that will appear brutally in your windscreen. And I forgot : a killer jump right after the finish line... above 250kmh, if you do not release the throttle, the track won't be wide enough for you land on the tarmac
Easy to learn, not to master, funny, this track has everything to enjoy every simmers, no matter the car they drive !

-----------------------------------------------------------

Indianapolis is a 4 in 1 mod. Ok this is not a high qulity mod, the textures look outdated, and this adds difficulty to read the road tracks... but this is the only mod I found to race virtually the Indycar championship that is reopening July 4th at indy GP . The archive is featuring the following tracks :

# MotoGP : very technical and hard to learn. It is slow, and chains very tight and changing curves. The track is hard to read by itself, and the low quality of the visuals make it even harder to learn.

# F1 GP

# Infield

# Speedway. the legendary oval Brickyard that's hosting the Indy 500, one of three challenges of the Triple Crown - with Le Mans and Monaco GP-, since 1911

The main interest of this track set is the oval, because it is the theatre of the legendary Indy 500, so if you are into the indycar/Nascar thing, it is a Must Have... if not, you Can do Without

-----------------------------------

Ledenon Is a French private track that was created over the layout of a MX track. I do not know a more technical track nor hard to master. The first time I hade to train for a race on it, I was close to give up, so much the times of the other competitors seemed to be far above my skills ! However, I kept on and did not regret, because racig on this track is a great experience, and pace is a sweet reward here. This track is Worth a try, because you'll learn a lot from it.... and also because you may love it ... or hate it

-------------------------------------------

Longford 67', Australia. This temporary road track hosted some F1 GP. It is laid in backcountry. Long straights ended by tight hairpins. You need a good engine to perform there, but you won't win without a perfect braking technique. Worth a try

------------------------------------------------

Le Mas du Clos. This is a 2 in 1 with short and long track. I only tested the long variant. This track is often qualified as the French Brands Hatch. It is located in the center of France, and is no longer active and only opens from time to time for the run outs of the Bardinon Collection. Although not at the level of production of Flat-Alfie, the modders did very good job, reproducing the grass & trees of the local environement. A very nice track to drive, with noticeable elevation changes, a tight technical zone, and a (bumpy) cork screw. This layout is worth you spend more lap on it than just for an occasional race, so it is a Must have

---------------------------------

Magny-Cours dl link on the YT page .... The track that hosted the French GP during most of the Prost vs Senna, and then Hakkinen vs Schumacher years. The track reproductin is ok, the environement is at AC level ( aka above rFator1 ! ! ) ... ok ..... I've been racing on this track since GTR2 so I know it quite well, it is perectly fitted to modern cars races ( GT, proto open wheels ... ) and most classics will do well too. Worth a try

-------------------------------------

Matra Park Nice little track, very well made and realistic. But easy to learn, secure, and very funny. Would be perfect for lil' pests or wacky races or even most powerfull go-karts  . Average time expected is 1' .... Worth a try
--------------------------------------------

Le Mont Dore this mod is a hillclimb layout. It models the track of a real challenge that is organized every year. Way shorter than Trento Bondone, but as technical. The shows a 2'36"643, but be advised the real life record is 2'12"xxx ! ! ! ! I would enjoy to see this track on our sever, for a time challenge ..... Worth a try

-----------------------------------------------

Le col des Mourezes

------------------------------------------------------

Nogaro dl link on the YT page. This track is located in the SW of France. That allowed me to visit it several times, but unhappily I only saw test sessions ... On another hand, I raced it several times on rFactor ... and I liked it with either the Alfa GTA, the Porsche RSR 2.8L, or a Shelby 350 GT. like in the mod the real thing is only surrounded by grass, but I can't say that the modders have done a great job on the surroundings. Hard to compare it to Fat_Alfie's work  .... However, this track offers an uncommon driving style, with a sinuous part that chains mid to long curves that are on the slow side, making you play with the throttle in 2nd or 3rd, and faster part where the ideal trajectory is all but easy to find .... obviously a Worth a try

Le col de Saint Roch

--------------------------------------

Spielberg Red Bull Ring Circuit (from the Red Pack):

Fun short track with three long straights, all of them followed by tight corners. Turn three is uphill, which means that you can break a bit later. Definitely a track that is fun to drive with cars that have a lot of downforce. The middle sector have a challenging long turn followed by smaller ones. The only thing I do not like is the fact that it is not updated to have the new DRS zone after turn 1 that have been added to the track IRL. Definetly recommend you to drive this track. Worth a try
