Thank you everyone, I had a terrific day I did 4-5 hours of gaming with my favourite gaming buddies, I saved £2K as I was meant to have party for 100 people at the Paradise (Pub/bar was cancelled due to Covid19) and kids really spoiled me with love, poems, home made gifts and wifey cooked pork crackling (roast pig belly) with brown sugar potatoes and red cabbage (danish tradition) and then Spaghetti Allo Vongole for dinner. As Jimmy V said 'If you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day' and I had a full day.

Two grand on a party? FKme. If I spent two grand on a party I'd want to wake up like The Hangover. There had better be hookers, remains of drugs (better get those the right way around) and a tiger in the kitchen.

NB I do not advocate the taking of illegal substances, or the corruption of women into the sex trade. Neither do I advocate spending £2k on a party. Holy shit.

Hope you had a great day, and I think you got more than money could buy chap.

The power of money is knowing how to spend it. 16 years ago I blew £20K on a wedding (£4K on engagement ring, £11k on wedding and £5k honeymoon) so I actually think seeing 100 of your best mates for 6-8 hours of drinking, chatting, dancing and laughing is good value. Beside my business would pay for event for networking purposes so it is an allowable expense and HMRC would subsidise it if you get my drift. I know seeing money in my bank account doesn't make me happy but hanging out with friends and having a good time does so that is my man math behind justifying it. When we turned 80 (wife 40 and I 40 back in 2015) we rented a large villa in Ibiza and invited 20 of our close friends down for a massive blow out doing some of the stuff you mention above - it was worth every penny - great memories and that's all we have when we get old. They say you only live once, but if you do it right once is enough.

It's not the choice or reasoning that's surprising mate. Most people don't have any friends who /have/ 2G to spend on a party, let alone 2G /to spare/ which they can blow on a party. You're in a pretty elite group mate. That's the reason for the exclamations.
