Getting this sort of stuff to work under linux is very hit an miss. I've gone through countless guides and blogs when I was using Ubuntu as my main desktop and only had a very low success rate getting the games working, mainly because I was on a laptop running onboard intel for 2d and dedicated nvid...

You could installed the windows version of steam with Lutris, if I'm correct. Plus configuring wine through it is a lot easier.
Lutris is the better option but you may have fun with some of the dependencies

Getting steam to play nicely on Linux is not funny. It's a complete git about software versions!
You need to be running the latest Ubuntu LTS, with the none-free software active to stand a chance.
I will go through my notes and see if I can find the info I used a while back.
